How to Start Building your own Therapeutic Wellness Package (Part 3: the Map, your vision)
You’ve probably heard of making a vision board and maybe even figuring out your “why”. Think of them as visuals to keep you go so you stay on your path or a way to get back to your path if a detour happens. They do happen, they will happen to you and we’ll get into them in Part 4. But back to our maps – figuring out our why serves to remind us why we’re doing what we’re doing. Another term that’s recently popped up more is Passion Project. I like this better than my “why” because all of these things I’m creating and sharing are passions I’ve learned about myself along my Pilgrimage. They’ve always been there, I just couldn’t see them clearly enough to do anything with them. But once I started uncovering bits of myself and letting in new experiences, these passions have risen above the muck and really given me something to focus on and get excited about. They also keep me going when things are hard. This pet is basically our “motto” or personal catch phrase. The “vision board” is a way to visualize the motto so you can see it and quickly remind your brain what you’re doing without even consciously thinking about it. Now – this is where you get to have fun and really put into action some of the things you’re learning about yourself. You can do a drawing, a digital version, glue photos on a board, or even create a personal flag, the sky isn’t even the limit on this project! At some point in my earlier years, I stopped seeing myself as crafty or creative, even though I was a musician for the first 20 years of my life. I came from the time period where being an artist wasn’t a real profession and wouldn’t create a secure career or future, so the creative was beat out of me and the business or financial side of things was re-enforced. Part 3 is your opportunity to figure out your passions and figure out how to build a life with them as the main focus. If your focus is only on the financial aspect you will always be dissatisfied with how much you earn and it will take over as your main focus. However, if you move forward with real intent and focus on your passions, the entire universe will get behind you to help you achieve success and make possible things you couldn’t even imagine when you originally created this first why and vision board. One word of caution – this is YOUR vision of YOUR Pilgrimage – you can only achieve what you envision – so allowing anyone else to sway you will essentially reduce your enjoyment and impact along the way. Also – this is no where near a once and done activity. You can and will need to re-envision along the way, because you will always be uncovering more about yourself and really finessing your vision so it better matches you. I’m 50 and I’m still uncovering, so while the main passions haven’t really changed, how I see them or share them or want to enact them have, so my “vision” has evolved a few times. Also, as I put plans into action, I start to see better ways to make things happen, so just creating your motto or vision won’t be enough – they’re just the beginning.
